1) Don't register too far in advance.
Each season brings new inventory to stores, so don't register too many months in advance otherwise your items might be out of stock or discontinued. My wedding is this upcoming June, so I decided to wait until after the holidays to register to allow stores to update their inventory.
2) Stalk you wedding registry like it's Facebook.
Even if you wait until closer to your wedding day to register, there is still always the chance that items you registered for will be out of stock or discontinued. If you keep an eye on your registry, you can update it as needed and won't have to worry about not getting that salad spinner you've always wanted.
3) Bring along a check list when you register.
I would have to say this is one of the most important details to keep in mind. Before you go to register, make a list of all of the items you need. I found it helpful to print of 'The Ultimate Registry Checklist' from theknot.com. The list comes with standard items to register for as well as the quantity of each item. You can delete anything you don't need and change the quantities. I might have looked a little ridiculous carrying around a clipboard with my registry check list, but I'm confident that I didn't forget anything!
